About the role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Cloud Engineer to drive complex modernisation initiatives and lead technical teams in delivering transformative cloud solutions. In this role, you'll architect enterprise-scale solutions, mentor engineering teams, and leverage AI to accelerate modernisation efforts. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibility for delivering exceptional client outcomes.

In your role as a Lead Cloud Engineer, you will:

• Lead technical delivery of cloud transformation programs, balancing hands-on architecture with strategic guidance across platform engineering, microservices, and cloud-native technologies

• Designing, architecting, and deploying AWS landing zones, including advanced networking and security architectures.

• Conducting a discovery phase and thorough assessment project, and developing a detailed business case (MAP Assess)

• Proven capability to assess and analyse complex environments, and to design, justify, and deliver comprehensive cloud transformation business cases.

• Build enterprise-grade production-ready AWS environments with advanced automation, implementing infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and security controls that meet enterprise compliance requirements.

• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across distributed systems, conducting thorough root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures to ensure project success

• Lead strategic modernisation initiatives, including roadmap development, portfolio rationalisation, and legacy assessment frameworks

• Design and implement platform engineering solutions with internal developer platforms, self-service capabilities, and golden paths

• Architect advanced migration patterns for massive scale, resilience, distributed systems, and chaos engineering approaches

• Design large enterprise migration programs that includes governance frameworks, quality gates, and FinOps integration

• Implement AI-powered modernisation platforms for automated code analysis and intelligent migration planning

• Lead and mentor engineering teams on complex modernisation projects, ensuring high-quality delivery and professional growth

• Build trusted client relationships and identify follow-on business opportunities

• Assist with pre-sales support, RFP creation, and statement of work development

• Willingness to continually upskill, including learning new technologies and obtaining certifications

What you'll need to be successful

• 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering with 3+ years in leadership or senior technical roles

• Proven experience leading enterprise cloud migrations and modernisation programs

• Exceptional experience with AWS and services related to cloud adoption, migration and modernisation

• Excellent experience with IaC (CDK, Terraform, Cloudformation, etc.) and CICD (GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Buildkite, etc.)

• Experience with AI-powered migration tools and automation platforms

• Specialist knowledge of cloud modernisation patterns and migration strategies

• Excellent knowledge and understanding of AWS MAP

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong stakeholder management and presentation abilities

• Ability to identify trends in cloud transformation and communicate them effectively to the wider team

• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor others, with proven team leadership experience

• Ability to interview for other team members

• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional preferred)
